WWC 2019: Smaller Goals? Alex Scott Weighs in on the Debate

Emma Hayes

Footballing legend, former Arsenal player, and current TV pundit, Alex Scott, takes aim at those within the Women’s game calling for smaller goals.

In a tweet from her official account, Scott says “Smaller goals!! I think NOT!! Let’s give GKs the top quality coaching they need/deserve and then we can continue to praise saves like this today”.

The tweet takes aim at the view that smaller goals are needed to better reflect the average size of a female goalkeeper. This view has been strongly advocated by Chelsea head coach Emma Hayes. Hayes is considered one of the best coach in the game.

Hayes though would have seen the quality of the goalkeeping at this year’s tournament, who have so far debunked the theory.
